A convite do Ministro dos Negócios Estrangeiros da Indonésia, Marty Natalegawa, no exercício da presidência pro tempore da Associação das Nações do Sudeste Asiático (ASEAN), o Ministro das Relações Exteriores Antonio de Aguiar Patriota participará, no próximo dia 16, do segmento ministerial da XIX Cúpula da Associação, a realizar-se em Bali, entre os dias 17 e 19 de novembro de 2011. Manterá, também, encontro com o Secretário-Geral da ASEAN, Embaixador Surin Pitsuwan, para discutir o estreitamento das relações entre o Brasil e aquela Associação. O Chanceler assinará, em Bali, Declaração relativa à intenção do País de aderir ao Tratado de Amizade e Cooperação no Sudeste Asiático.

A ASEAN é um mecanismo de integração regional asiático, que reune população de 600 milhões de pessoas e PIB total de US$ 1,8 trilhão. Em 2010, o comércio brasileiro com o conjunto dos países da região alcançou US$ 13,3 bilhões. A adesão ao Tratado propiciará diálogo político mais sistemático e de maior conteúdo entre o Brasil e a ASEAN.

O Ministro das Relações Exteriores se reunirá, também, com o Ministro dos Negócios Estrangeiros indonésio, quando serão discutidas formas para a intensificação do comércio bilateral, assim como temas de interesse comum na agenda regional e global. Quarto país mais populoso do mundo, maior economia da ASEAN e sede da Secretaria da Associação, a Indonésia teve fluxo de comércio bilateral com o Brasil de US$ 3,2 bilhões em 2010. Entre janeiro e outubro de 2011, o intercâmbio comercial já superou US$ 2,9 bilhões, registrando incremento de 18% em relação ao mesmo período de 2010, com importantes operações registradas nos setores de mineração, alimentício, aeronáutico e de defesa. Durante a visita, deverá ser assinado Memorando de Entendimento entre o Brasil e a Indonésia para a Promoção do Comércio e Investimentos bilaterais.

O Ministro Patriota participará, igualmente, do evento empresarial “Brasil-ASEAN: Comércio, Investimentos e Parcerias”, no âmbito da “Conferência de Negócios e Investimentos da ASEAN”, que contará com delegação de empresários brasileiros de diversos setores, além de altos representantes de organizações empresariais como CNI, FIESP e APEX-Brasil.

19th Summit of the Association of East Asian Nations and Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota’s visit to Indonesia - Bali, 16 November 2011

On November 16, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Marty Natalegawa, who holds the Pro Tempore presidency of the Association of East Asian Nations, the Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will take part in the ministerial segment of the 19th Summit of the Association, to be held in Bali, between 17 and 19 November 2011.  He will also hold meetings with the ASAN Secretary-General, Ambassador Surin Pitsuwan, to address the strengthening of relations between Brazil and the Association.  In Bali, the Foreign Minister will sign a Declaration on Brazil’s intention to accede to the South East Asian Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.

ASEAN is a regional integration mechanism in Asia, comprising 600 million people and a total GDP of US$ 1.8 trillion.  In 2010, trade between Brazil and the countries in the region reached US$ 13.3 billion.  By acceding to the Treaty, strengthened and more systematic dialogue can be achieved between Brazil and ASEAN.

The Minister of External Relations will also meet with the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, when they will address ways to enhance bilateral trade, as well as issues of common interest in the regional and global agendas.  As the fourth most populous country in the world, the largest ASEAN economy and the seat of the Association’s Secretariat, Indonesia recorded a US$ 3.2 billion bilateral trade flow with Brazil n 2010. Between January and October 2011, trade exchange already exceeded US$ 2.9 billion, a 18% growth with regard to the same period in 2010, with significant operations on sectors such as mining, food, aviation and defense.  During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding between Brazil and Indonesia will be sign for the Promotion of Bilateral Trade and Investment. 

Minister Patriota will also take part on a business event on “Brazil-ASEAN: Trade, Investment and Partnerships”, within the “ASEAN Business and Investment Conference”, to be attended by a delegation of Brazilian entrepreneurs from several sectors, in addition to high-level officials from business organizations such as the National Conference of Industries (CNI), the Federation of Industries of São Paulo (FIESP) and the Brazilian Investment Promotion Agency (APEX-Brasil).
