O Ministro Celso Amorim realizará visita a Genebra, no período de 10 a 14 de setembro.

No dia 11, será o orador principal do painel intitulado “Sistemas e Instituições de Segurança: Perspectivas Regionais”, na 8ª Conferência Anual do International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), cujo tema para a edição de 2010 é “A Governança da Segurança Global e a Nova Distribuição de Poder”. O Ministro Amorim dividirá a mesa com o Secretário do Exterior indiano, Nirupama Rao, com o ex-Alto Representante da União Européia para Política Externa e de Segurança Comum, Javier Solana, e com o Dr. John Chipman, Diretor-Executivo do IISS.

No dia 12, participará de café-da-manhã de trabalho com o Diretor-Geral da OMC, Pascal Lamy, ocasião na qual serão discutidas questões ligadas à situação atual e às perspectivas da Rodada Doha.

No dia 13, o Ministro Amorim terá encontro com a Alta Comissária para Direitos Humanos das Nações Unidas, Navanethem Pillay, ocasião em que tratarão de assuntos relativos à reforma institucional do Conselho de Direitos Humanos da ONU, a realizar-se em 2011. Manterá também encontro com o Presidente do Comitê Internacional da Cruz Vermelha, Jakob Kellenberger, a quem reiterará o compromisso brasileiro com os objetivos daquela organização humanitária.

Ainda no dia 13, em encontro com o Alto Comissário das Nações Unidas para Refugiados, António Guterres, assinará Memorando de Entendimento entre o Brasil e o ACNUR sobre a provisão de assistência humanitária. No ano corrente, o Brasil prestou assistência humanitária no valor de US$ 3,3 milhões por meio do Alto Comissariado. Essas contribuições elevaram o País à condição de maior prestador de assistência humanitária por intermédio do ACNUR, entre os países em desenvolvimento.

Minister Celso Amorim to visit Geneva – 10-14 September, 2010

Minister Celso Amorim will visit Geneva from 10 to 14 September, 2010.

On 11 September, he will be the keynote speaker at the “Security Systems and Institutions: Regional Perspectives” panel, at the 8th Annual Conference of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). The theme of the 2010Conference is “Global Security Governance and the Emerging Distribution of Power”. The Indian Foreign Secretary, Nirupama Rao, the former European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, and Dr. John Chipman, Chief Executive of IISS, will speak at the same panel.

On 12 September, he will attend a working breakfast with the WTO Director-General, Pascal Lamy, to discuss issues related to the current situation and to the outlooks for the Doha Round.

On 13 September, Minister Celso Amorim will hold a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navanethem Pillay, to address issues related to the institutional reform of the UN Human Rights Council, to be carried out in 2011. He will also hold a meeting with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Jakob Kellenberger, to whom he will reiterate the Brazilian commitment to the objectives of that humanitarian organization.

Also on 13 September, in a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres, Minister Celso Amorim will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Brazil and UNHCR on the provision of humanitarian aid. In 2010, through the UNHCR, Brazil has offered humanitarian aid amounting to US$ 3.3 million. These contributions made Brazil the main donor of UNHCR humanitarian aid among developing countries.
