O Ministro Antonio de Aguiar Patriota realizará visita de trabalho a Washington, nos dias 23 e 24 de fevereiro, ocasião em que manterá reuniões com a Secretária de Estado, Hillary Rodham Clinton, o Conselheiro de Segurança Nacional, Thomas E. Donilon, e o Secretário do Tesouro, Timothy F. Geithner. O Chanceler brasileiro aproveitará a visita para encontrar-se também com o Presidente do Banco Mundial, Robert B. Zoellick.

A viagem se inscreve no contexto dos preparativos da Visita de Estado que o Presidente Barack Obama realizará ao Brasil, nos próximos dias 19 e 20 de março, a convite da Presidenta Dilma Rousseff. O diálogo com as autoridades norte-americanas abarca diversas questões de interesse bilateral, como comércio, investimentos, energia, defesa, ciência e tecnologia, inovação, cooperação espacial, educação, cultura, combate à discriminação racial e de gênero e assuntos consulares, bem como assuntos das agendas regional e global, com destaque para a situação no Haiti e no Oriente Médio, OEA, Direitos Humanos e Temas Sociais, Mudança do Clima e Desenvolvimento Sustentável, Desarmamento e Não-Proliferação e Reforma das Instituições de Governança Global.

Os Estados Unidos são o maior investidor estrangeiro no Brasil, o segundo maior importador de produtos brasileiros e o segundo maior parceiro comercial do País, com fluxo de mais de US$ 46 bilhões em 2010. Entre 2009 e 2010, as exportações brasileiras para aquele mercado registraram aumento de 26,21%, passando de US$ 15,6 bilhões para US$ 19,3 bilhões. O Brasil, por sua vez, é o 8º destino das exportações dos EUA.

Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota will make a working visit to Washington on 24 and 25 February 2011, where he will hold meetings with the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, the National Security Advisor, Thomas E. Donilon, and the Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy F. Geithner. During the visit, the Brazilian Foreign Minister will also meet the President of the World Bank, Robert B. Zoellick.

The visit falls under the preparations for President Barrack Obama’s State Visit to Brazil, on 19 and 20 March 2011, at the invitation of President Dilma Rousseff. The conversations with United States officials comprises several issues of bilateral interest, such as trade, investments, energy, defense, science and technology, innovation, space cooperation, education, culture, fight against race and gender discrimination and consular affairs, as well as issues in the regional and global agendas, with special attention to the situation in Haiti and in the Middle East, OAS, Human Rights and Social Affairs, Climate Chance and Sustainable Development, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation and Reform of the Global Governance Institutions.

The United States is the main foreign investor in Brazil, the second largest importer of Brazilian products and the second top trade partner of the country, with a trade flow of more than US$ 46 billion in 2010. Between 2009 and 2010, Brazilian exports to the North American market expanded 26.21%, increasing from US$15.6 billion to US$19.3 billion. Brazil is the 8th destination for US exports.
