Ao examinarem os principais pontos da agenda bilateral, os Presidentes deverão tratar, entre outros, de temas como a participação brasileira em projetos de desenvolvimento da infraestrutura nicaraguense, programas de cooperação técnica em matéria social e instrumentos para ampliar o comércio e os investimentos.

A visita do Presidente Ortega também permitirá avaliação, no mais alto nível, das perspectivas para maior aproximação entre o Brasil e a América Central. O Brasil é, desde 2008, membro observador do Sistema de Integração Centro-Americano (SICA) e encontra-se em processo de adesão ao Banco Centro-Americano de Integração Econômica (BCIE). Nesse contexto, os Presidentes poderão trocar impressões sobre possíveis avanços no diálogo entre o MERCOSUL e o SICA durante o presente semestre, quando o Brasil ocupará a presidência pro tempore do MERCOSUL.

Os Presidentes deverão, ainda, examinar o andamento do processo de integração da América Latina e Caribe, impulsionado pelas Cúpulas de Sauípe (dezembro de 2008) e de Cancún (fevereiro de 2010).

De janeiro a junho de 2010, o fluxo comercial entre Brasil e Nicarágua somou US$ 26,5 milhões, com crescimento superior a 50% em relação a igual período de 2009.

The President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, will make an official visit to Brazil on July 28, 2010, in retribution to the visit made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Nicaragua in August 2007, the first visit of a Brazilian Head of State to that country.

While addressing the main items in the bilateral agenda, the Presidents will go over issues such as the Brazilian participation in projects on the development of the Nicaraguan infrastructure, technical cooperation programs on social affairs and instruments to expand trade and investment, among others.

President Ortega’s visit will also allow the assessment, at the highest level, of the outlooks for closer ties between Brazil and Central America. In 2008, Brazil became an observer member of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and is going through the accession process to the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). In this context, the Presidents will exchange impressions on possible developments of the SICA-MERCOSUR dialogue this semester, when Brazil will be MERCOSUR’s President pro tempore.

The Presidents will also examine the Latin American – Caribbean integration process, which was stimulated by Sauípe (December 2008) and Cancún (February 2010) Summits.

Between January and June 2010, trade flow between Brazil and Nicaragua amounted to US$ 26.5 million, an increase of more than 50% in relation to the same period in 2009.
