O Ministro dos Negócios Estrangeiros e da Cooperação da República do Congo, Basile Ikouébé, realizará visita ao Brasil no dia 9 de setembro de 2010.

O Ministro Ikouébé será recebido pelo Ministro Celso Amorim para encontro de trabalho, seguido de almoço. Na ocasião, fará entrega de carta do Presidente da República do Congo, Denis Sassou N’guesso, dirigida ao Presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Durante o encontro, serão tratados temas como a coordenação na área ambiental e o avanço na cooperação técnica.

Na área ambiental, Brasil e Congo têm interesses comuns por contarem, em seus respectivos territórios, com duas das maiores bacias hidrográficas do mundo – as dos rios Amazonas e Congo – e com extensas florestas tropicais.

A cooperação técnica bilateral tem grande potencial no combate ao HIV/AIDS e à malária, bem como no desenvolvimento de técnicas de cultivo de palma africana e cacau.

As exportações brasileiras para o Congo cresceram de US$ 3,8 milhões, em 2000, para US$ 68 milhões, em 2008. A maior parte desse período registrou superávit para o Congo, devido às importações brasileiras de petróleo. A tendência foi revertida em 2008, quando o Brasil conseguiu um superávit comercial de US$ 67 milhões, e mantida em 2009, quando o superávit comercial brasileiro foi de US$ 48 milhões. Prevê-se para este ano fluxo total de cerca de US$ 60 milhões.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of the Congo, Basile Ikouébé, will visit Brazil on 9 September 2010.

Minister Ikouébé will be received by Minister Celso Amorim for a working meeting followed by luncheon. On the occasion, he will deliver a letter by the President of the Republic of the Congo, Denis Sassou N’guesso, addressed to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

During the meeting, they will go over issues such as coordination in the environmental area and the development of technical cooperation.

In the environmental area, Brazil and Congo have common interests, in their respective territories, with two of the largest river basins of the world – the Amazon and the Congo basins – and with extensive tropical forests.

Bilateral technical cooperation has a great potential in the fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria, as well as in the development of farming techniques for the African palm and cocoa.

Brazilian exports to Congo rose from US$ 3.8 million, in 2000, to US$ 68 million, in 2008. During most of the period, Congo was in surplus due to Brazilian oil imports. The trend was reversed in 2008, when Brazil reached a trade surplus of US$ 67 million, and continued in 2009, when the Brazilian trade surplus totaled US$ 48 million. The total flow for 2010 is expected to amount to about US$ 60 million.
