O Diretor-Geral da Organização das Nações Unidas para o Desenvolvimento Industrial (ONUDI), Kandeh Yumkella, realizou, em 27 e 28 de maio, visita oficial ao Brasil. A ONUDI é a agência especializada da ONU que promove o desenvolvimento industrial sustentável voltado para a redução da pobreza em países em desenvolvimento.

Em Brasília, o Diretor-Geral da ONUDI foi recebido pelo Ministro do Desenvolvimento, Indústria e Comércio Exterior, Miguel Jorge, e pelo Ministro da Ciência e Tecnologia, Sérgio Rezende. Também manteve encontros com o Diretor-Executivo da EMBRAPA, José Geraldo Eugênio de França, e com o Presidente do SEBRAE, Paulo Okamotto.

No Itamaraty, o Dr. Yumkella reuniu-se com o Subsecretário-Geral de Energia e Alta Tecnologia, Embaixador André Amado. No encontro, discutiu-se o maior envolvimento da ONUDI em iniciativas de cooperação do Brasil com países do continente africano, em especial, em projetos de bioenergia.

Durante a missão, foi anunciada a reabertura do escritório da ONUDI no Brasil. O Representante do novo Escritório será Gustavo Aishemberg, funcionário de carreira da Organização.

The Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Kandeh Yumkella, made an official visit to Brazil on May 27 and 28. UNIDO is the specialized agency of the UN that promotes sustainable industrial development aimed at poverty reduction in developing countries.

In Brasilia, the Director General of UNIDO was received by the Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Miguel Jorge, and by the Minister of Science and Technology, Sérgio Rezende. He also held meetings with the Executive Director of EMBRAPA, José Geraldo Eugênio de França, and with the President of SEBRAE, Paulo Okamotto.

At Itamaraty, Dr. Yumkella met with the Undersecretary for Energy and High Technology, Ambassador André Amado. During the meeting, they discussed UNIDO’s greater involvement in Brazilian cooperation initiatives with African countries, particularly in bioenergy projects.

During the mission, the reopening of UNIDO’s office in Brazil was announced. Gustavo Aishemberg, a career official of the Organization, will be the new office’s Representative.
