O Governo brasileiro acompanha com apreensão a situação na Líbia e repudia os atos de violência ocorridos durante as recentes manifestações populares, que resultaram em mortes de civis.

Ao expressar sua expectativa de que as aspirações do povo líbio sejam atendidas por meio do diálogo político, o Governo brasileiro exorta as autoridades daquele país a respeitar e garantir os direitos de livre expressão dos manifestantes.

O Embaixador do Brasil na Líbia, George Ney de Souza Fernandes, viajará a Bengazi, principal foco das manifestações, para reunir-se com representantes da comunidade brasileira residente naquela cidade.

The Brazilian Government has been following with concern the situation in Libya and denounces the acts of violence that were carried out during recent popular demonstrations, leading to civilian deaths.

While hoping that the aspirations of the Libyan people be met by means of political dialogue, the Brazilian Government calls on the officials in that country to uphold and protect the right of free expression of the protesters.

The Brazilian Ambassador to Libya, George Ney de Souza Fernandes, will travel to Bengazi, the main point of the demonstrations, to meet with representatives of the Brazilian community in that city.
