Será realizada, nos dias 26 e 27 de agosto, em Inhotim, Minas Gerais, a VIII Reunião Ministerial de coordenação entre Brasil, África do Sul, Índia e China (BASIC) sobre as negociações em curso no âmbito da Convenção-Quadro das Nações Unidas sobre Mudança do Clima (UNFCCC). O encontro será co-presidido pela Ministra do Meio Ambiente, Izabella Teixeira, e pelo Ministro das Relações Exteriores, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota. No dia 25 de agosto, reúnem-se peritos em mudança do clima e negociadores do processo em curso nas Nações Unidas.

A VIII Reunião Ministerial do BASIC terá a participação da Ministra de Relações Internacionais e Cooperação da África do Sul - e próxima Presidenta da Conferência das Partes da UNFCCC - Maite Nkoana-Mashabane; do Vice-Presidente da Comissão Nacional de Desenvolvimento e Reforma da China, Xie Zhenhua; e do Vice-Ministro para o Meio Ambiente e Florestas da Índia, J.M. Mauskar.

A reunião permitirá a coordenação de posições sobre aspectos substantivos das negociações com vistas à 17ª Conferência das Partes na UNFCCC (COP-17) e à 7ª Reunião das Partes no Protocolo de Quioto (CMP-7), que se realizarão em Durban, África do Sul, de 28 de novembro a 9 de dezembro de 2011.

O encontro também examinará temas da Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre Desenvolvimento Sustentável (Rio+20), a realizar-se em maio e junho de 2012, no Rio de Janeiro.

Brazil, South Africa, India and China (BASIC) Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change – Inhotim-MG, 26 and 27 August 2011

The 8th Ministerial Coordination Meeting between Brazil, South Africa, India and Chine (BASIC) on the ongoing negotiations within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held on 26 and 27 August in Inhotim, Minas Gerais. The Minister of the Environment, Izabella Teixeira, and the Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will chair the meeting. On 25 August, climate change experts and negotiators of the ongoing process within the United Nations will hold a meeting.

The 8th BASIC Ministerial Meeting will be attended by the South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation – and incoming President of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC – Maite Nkoana-Mashabane; by the Vice-Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of China, Xie Zhenhua; and the Special Secretary for Environment and Forests of India, J. M. Mauskar.

The meeting will promote the coordination of positions regarding substantive aspects of the negotiations with a view to the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCC (COP-17) and the 7th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP-7), to be held in Durban, South Africa, from 28 November to 9 December 2011.

The meeting will also assess issues related to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), to be held on May and June 2012, in Rio de Janeiro.
