O Conselho de Direitos Humanos renovou ontem, 30 de setembro, por mais três anos, o mandato do Relator Especial da ONU sobre direito à saúde. A Relatoria Especial da ONU foi criada por iniciativa brasileira em 2002 e é atualmente exercida pelo indiano Anand Grover.

A Resolução que renova o mandato, de iniciativa brasileira, foi aprovada por consenso e contou com o co-patrocínio de outros 56 países, tendo sido objeto de consultas também com representantes da sociedade civil. O texto reforça o direito à saúde como direito humano universal e aponta diversas questões prioritárias para sua realização, entre as quais as estratégias de redução de pobreza; a realização dos ODMs; a saúde da mulher e a saúde sexual e reprodutiva; o acesso a medicamentos e o fim das barreiras abusivas ao comércio de remédios, inclusive genéricos.

Tendo em vista a importância e a crescente representatividade da pessoa idosa em todos os países, inclusive no Brasil, a resolução solicita ao Relator Especial preparar estudo sobre a saúde dos idosos, seus desafios e as boas práticas existentes.

On 30 September, 2010, the Human Rights Council renewed the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health for a three year period. The UN Special Rapporteur post was created by a Brazilian initiative in 2002 and is currently held by Anand Grover, from India.

The Resolution renewing the mandate, also a Brazilian initiative, was unanimously approved and sponsored by 56 other countries, as well as discussed by representatives of civil society. The text reinforces the right to health as a universal human right and points out many priority issues in order to realize it, such as strategies to reduce poverty; the fulfillment of the MDGs; women’s health and sexual and reproductive health; access to medication and the end of unfair barriers to medication trade, including generic drugs.

Bearing in mind the importance and the growing representation of the elderly population in all countries, including Brazil, the resolution requests the Special Rapporteur to prepare a study on the health of the elderly, its challenges and the existing good practices.
