O Presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participará, em 26 de novembro, da IV Reunião Ordinária do Conselho de Chefes de Estado e de Governo da União de Nações Sul-Americanas (UNASUL), em Georgetown, capital da Guiana. O evento marcará a transferência da presidência de turno do Equador para a Guiana.

A Cúpula de Georgetown discutirá, entre outros assuntos, a adoção de um Protocolo Adicional sobre Compromisso Democrático, conforme decisão tomada na Cúpula Extraordinária de Buenos Aires.

Os Chefes de Estado sul-americanos deverão examinar, ainda, o tema da sucessão do ex-Presidente argentino Néstor Kirchner na Secretaria-Geral da UNASUL.

Na véspera da Cúpula, o Presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva será condecorado pelo Presidente da Guiana, Bharrat Jagdeo, com a Ordem de Excelência, a mais alta distinção honorífica daquele país.

4th Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Heads of State and Government of UNASUR – Georgetown, 25 and 26 November 2010

On 26 November 2010, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will participate in the 4th Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Heads of State and Government of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), in Georgetown, capital of Guyana. The event will mark the handover of the Pro Tempore Presidency from Ecuador to Guyana.

The Georgetown Summit will address, among other issues, the adoption of an Additional Protocol on Democratic Commitment, according to the decision made at the Buenos Aires Summit.

The South American Heads of State will also discuss the succession of former Argentinean President Nestor Kirchner in the UNASUR General Secretariat.

On the eve of the Summit, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will be decorated by the President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, with the Order of Excellence, the highest honorific distinction in the country.
