IV Reunião Ministerial do BASIC - Rio de Janeiro, 25 e 26 de Julho / 4th BASIC Ministerial Meeting – Rio de Janeiro, July 25 and 26, 2010

Será realizada, nos dias 25 e 26 de julho, no Rio de Janeiro, a IV Reunião Ministerial de coordenação entre Brasil, África do Sul, Índia e China (BASIC) sobre as negociações em curso no âmbito da Convenção-Quadro das Nações Unidas sobre Mudança do Clima (UNFCCC, conforme sigla em inglês). A reunião será precedida de encontro de peritos em mudança do clima (dias 23 e 24 de julho) e de reunião de negociadores-chefes do processo em curso nas Nações Unidas (dia 24 de julho).

A reunião será co-presidida pelo Embaixador Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, Ministro interino das Relações Exteriores, e pela Ministra do Meio Ambiente, Izabella Teixeira.

A Reunião Ministerial abordará os vários aspectos substantivos das negociações no âmbito da UNFCCC, bem como as perspectivas de reuniões futuras, com destaque para a 16ª Conferência das Partes na UNFCCC (COP-16) e a 6ª Reunião das Partes no Protocolo de Quioto (CMP-6), que se realizarão em Cancún, de 29 de novembro a 10 de dezembro de 2010. Terá destaque na agenda a consideração do tema de eqüidade no enfrentamento internacional da mudança do clima.

A imprensa terá acesso à abertura do evento, para imagens, às 9h00 do dia 25 de julho. Entrevista coletiva será concedida após a conclusão dos trabalhos, às 11h30min do dia 26 de julho. A reunião ocorrerá na Escola Nacional de Botânica Tropical (Solar da Imperatriz), localizada na Rua Pacheco Leão, 20 40 – Horto – Rio de Janeiro.

The 4th Ministerial Coordination Meeting between Brazil, South Africa, India and China (BASIC) on the ongoing negotiations within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held in Rio de Janeiro on July 25 and 26, 2010. The meeting will be preceded by a meeting of experts on climate change (July 23 and 24) and by a meeting of leading negotiators of the ongoing process within the United Nations (July 24).

Ambassador Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, Acting Minister of External Relations, and the Minister of Environment, Izabella Teixeira, will preside over the meeting.

The Ministerial Meeting will address various significant aspects of the negotiations within the UNFCCC, as well as the outlook for future meetings, especially for the 16th UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP-16), and for the 6th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP-6) to be held in Cancun, from November 29 to December 10, 2010. Equity in the international fight against climate change will be one of the main items in the agenda of the meeting.

The press will be allowed to cover the opening of the event (images only), at 9:00, on July 25. A press conference will be held after the closing of the meeting, at 11h30 on July 26. The meeting will take place at the National School of Tropical Botany (Solar da Imperatriz) – Rua Pacheco Leão, 20 40 – Horto – Rio de Janeiro.
