O Presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participará, no dia 28 de maio, do III Fórum Mundial da Aliança de Civilizações, a realizar-se no Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, de 27 a 29 de maio. Com o tema “Interligando Culturas, Construindo a Paz”, o Fórum do Rio de Janeiro dá seguimento aos de Madri (2008) e Istambul (2009).

A Aliança de Civilizações é uma iniciativa, no âmbito das Nações Unidas, que busca mobilizar a opinião pública em todo o mundo para superar preconceitos e percepções equivocadas que, muitas vezes, levam a conflitos entre Estados e comunidades heterogêneas. Participarão do Fórum cerca de 3.000 pessoas, entre Chefes de Estado ou de Governo, Ministros de Estado e representantes governamentais ou de organizações internacionais.

A sessão inaugural, presidida pelo Presidente Lula, contará com a participação do Secretário-Geral das Nações Unidas, Ban Ki-moon; do Primeiro-Ministro da Turquia, Recep Tayyip Erdogan; do Alto-Representante das Nações Unidas para a Aliança de Civilizações, o ex-Presidente português Jorge Sampaio; e da Xeica Mozah, do Catar, anfitriã do próximo Fórum, em 2011.

A programação do Fórum divide-se em diversas sessões temáticas, entre elas Sessão Especial sobre o Haiti, que contará com a participação do Primeiro-Ministro haitiano, Jean-Max Bellerive, e do Representante do Secretário-Geral das Nações Unidas no Haiti, Edmond Mullet.

On May 28, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will participate in the 3^rd World Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, to be held at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, from May 29 to 29. Entitled “Bridging Cultures, Building Peace”, the Rio de Janeiro Forum follows up on Madrid’s (2008) and Istanbul’s (2009) Forums.

The Alliance of Civilizations is an initiative within the United Nations which aims at mobilizing public opinion to overcome prejudice and mistaken perceptions that often cause conflicts between States and heterogeneous communities. Around 3,000 people will participate in the Forum, including Heads of State and Government, Ministers of State and representatives of Governments and international organizations.

The opening session, to be presided by President Lula, will also be attended by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon; by the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan; by the United Nations High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, Portugal’s Former President Jorge Sampaio; and by Sheikha Mozah, from Qatar, where the next Forum will be held in 2011.

The Forum’s program has many thematic sections, including a Special Session on Haiti, to be attended by the Prime Minister of Haiti, Jean-Max Bellevire, and by the Special Representative of the Secretary General in Haiti, Edmond Mullet.
