A Presidenta Dilma Rousseff participará, em Caracas, nos dias 2 e 3 de dezembro, da III Cúpula da América Latina e do Caribe sobre Integração e Desenvolvimento (CALC).

A Cúpula de Caracas dará início ao funcionamento da Comunidade dos Estados Latino-Americanos e Caribenhos (CELAC), que contará com a participação de 33 países e terá por objetivos principais a cooperação intrarregional, a concertação política e a projeção internacional da região.

A I CALC, realizada, por iniciativa do Brasil, em 2008, na Bahia, constituiu a primeira reunião exclusiva de todos os Chefes de Estado e de Governo da América Latina e do Caribe. Em 2010, o México sediou a II CALC, ocasião em que se decidiu criar a Comunidade dos Estados Latino-Americanos e Caribenhos (CELAC), a partir da fusão da CALC e do Grupo do Rio.

O Brasil possui hoje Embaixadas residentes em todos os países representados na CELAC. A corrente de comércio com os países da região cresceu cerca de quatro vezes em oito anos, entre 2002 e 2010. O intercâmbio comercial do País com a América do Sul, América Central, México e Caribe atingiu, em 2010, US$ 78 bilhões. Em 2011, até setembro, o intercâmbio comercial com a região alcançou US$ 69 bilhões.

3rd Latin American and Caribbean Summit on Integration and Development (CALC) / Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) – Caracas, 2 and 3 December 2011
 

President Dilma Rousseff will participate in the 3rd Latin American and Caribbean Summit on Integration and Development (CALC), to be held in Caracas on 2 and 3 December.

The Caracas Summit will usher in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), comprising 33 countries. The main goals of CELAC will be the promotion of intraregional cooperation, political concertation and international projection of the region.

The 1st CALC, held on a Brazilian initiative, in 2008, in Bahia, was the first exclusive meeting of all heads of State and Government of Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2010, Mexico hosted the 2nd CALC, when the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was created to merge CALC and the Rio Group.

Today, Brazil has resident Embassies in all countries represented in CELAC. Trade flow with the countries of the region increased about fourfold in eight years, between 2002 and 2010. Brazilian trade exchange with South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean reached US$78 billion in 2010. In 2011, until September, trade exchange with the region reached US$69 billion in 2011.
