Delegações do MERCOSUL e da Palestina reuniram-se em Ramalá, nos dias 16 e 17 de outubro, com o objetivo de avançar substancialmente na finalização de um Acordo de Livre Comércio. A delegação palestina foi chefiada pelo Dr. Hasan Abu Libdeh, Ministro da Economia Nacional, e a do MERCOSUL pela Senhora Valeria Csukasi, Diretora de Integração do Ministério das Relações Exteriores do Uruguai.

A negociação desse Acordo reflete o apoio dos países do MERCOSUL a uma Palestina independente e economicamente viável, coexistindo em paz com todos os seus vizinhos.

Durante a reunião, os dois lados revisaram o projeto de Acordo de Livre Comércio entre o MERCOSUL e a Palestina e coincidiram no objetivo de assinar o Acordo durante a Cúpula do MERCOSUL, a realizar-se em Montevidéu, em dezembro de 2011. O lado palestino anunciou que o Presidente Mahmoud Abbas comparecerá à Cúpula.

Os dois lados reconheceram a importância de aperfeiçoar as relações comerciais e econômicas entre o MERCOSUL e a Palestina, bem como de compartilhar experiências em matéria de desenvolvimento econômico e de cooperar na área de capacitação.

O Dr. Abu Libdeh destacou que a conclusão desse Acordo com os membros do MERCOSUL, a quinta maior economia do mundo, é muito importante e contribuirá para a construção institucional na Palestina.

A Presidência do MERCOSUL expressou reconhecimento pela hospitalidade do lado palestino e sua contribuição para o resultado exitoso da reunião.

Palestine and MERCOSUR met in Ramallah on the 16th and 17th October to substantially advance in the finalization of a Free Trade Agreement. The Palestinian delegation was headed by Minister of National Economy Dr. Hasan Abu Libdeh and MERCOSUR delegation by Mrs. Valeria Csukasi, Director for Integration of Uruguay Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The negotiation of this Agreement reflects the support of MERCOSUR countries to an independent and economically viable Palestine, coexisting in peace with all its neighbors.

During the meeting both sides reviewed the draft for a Free Trade Agreement between MERCOSUR and Palestine and committed to the goal of signing this Agreement during MERCOSUR´s Summit, to be held in Montevideo in December 2011. The Palestinian side announced that President Mahmoud Abbas will be attending the Summit.

Both sides recognized the importance of enhancing trade and economic relations between MERCOSUR and Palestine as well as sharing experience in economic development and cooperating in capacity building.

Dr. Abu Libdeh pointed out that the completion of this Agreement with MERCOSUR countries, the 5th largest economy in the World, is very important and will contribute to institution building in Palestine.

MERCOSUR Presidency recognized the hospitality of the Palestinian side and its contribution to the successful outcome of this meeting.
