O Governo brasileiro recebeu com grande pesar a notícia do falecimento do ex-Presidente da República Tcheca, Václav Havel, no último domingo.

Por mais de quatro décadas, a atuação de Havel em prol da democracia e dos direitos humanos foi fonte de inspiração para os que, em toda parte, lutavam por um mundo mais justo.

Como Presidente da Tchecoslováquia, primeiro, e da República Tcheca, em seguida, Václav Havel foi parceiro e interlocutor que distintos Governos brasileiros tiveram sempre em alta estima, pela convergência dos seus valores humanistas com aqueles professados pela nação brasileira.

Por todos esses motivos, o Governo brasileiro manifesta sua tristeza pela perda e deseja transmitir suas mais sinceras condolências à família do ex-Presidente Havel e ao Governo e povo tchecos.

The Brazilian Government is saddened to learn of the passing of former President of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel, last Sunday.

For over four decades, his actions in favor of democracy and human rights were a source of inspiration for those anywhere who fought for a more just world. 

First as President of Czechoslovakia, then of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel was a partner and interlocutor held in great esteem by different Brazilian Administrations, because of the convergence of his humanistic values with those espoused by the Brazilian nation.

In light of all these reasons, the Brazilian Government expresses its consternation on the loss and wishes to convey its heartfelt condolences to the family of former President Havel and to the Czech Government and people.
