O Brasil foi eleito para integrar a primeira composição da Junta Executiva da ONU-Mulheres (UN-Women) nas eleições realizadas em 10 de novembro, durante Sessão do Conselho Econômico e Social (ECOSOC). O Brasil obteve 48 votos, o maior número entre os países da América Latina e Caribe.

Criada em julho, a ONU-Mulheres resultou da consolidação dos órgãos das Nações Unidas dedicados à promoção da igualdade de gênero e ao fortalecimento da condição da mulher. A Junta Executiva da ONU-Mulheres terá à sua frente a ex-Presidente do Chile, Michelle Bachelet.

Brazil was elected to sit at the first composition of the Executive Board of the UN-Women (UN-Women) in the elections held on 10 November 2010, during session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Brazil got 48 votes, the highest tally among Latin America and Caribbean countries.
 
Created in July, the UN-Women arose from the consolidation of United Nations bodies dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment.  The UN-Women Executive Board will be headed by the former President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet.
