O Brasil foi eleito, hoje, para mandato de quatro anos (2011-2015) no Conselho Executivo da Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, Ciência e Cultura (UNESCO).

O Conselho, composto por 58 países, é responsável pelo acompanhamento da execução do programa de trabalho e do orçamento da UNESCO, e um dos principais órgãos diretores da organização.

A candidatura brasileira ao Conselho Executivo reflete a importância atribuída pelo país à Organização em seu papel de promotora de uma cultura da paz, do diálogo de civilizações e da diversidade cultural. O Brasil continuará, no Conselho Executivo, a defender a relevância do mandato da UNESCO em educação, ciência e cultura, com ênfase na intensificação da cooperação em beneficio do mundo em desenvolvimento.

On 2 November, Brazil was elected to a four-year mandate (2011-2015) at the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The Council, which comprises 58 countries, is in charge of overseeing UNESCO’s work program and its budget, and is one of the organization’s main governing bodies.

The Brazilian bid for the Executive Board reflects the importance the country assigns to the role of the Organization in the promotion of a culture of peace, the dialogue of civilizations and cultural diversity.  While on the Board, Brazil will continue to uphold the relevance of UNESCO’s mandate on education, science and culture, with special attention to enhancing cooperation to benefit the developing world.
