27/05/2011 – No Dia Internacional dos Trabalhadores das Forças de Paz, o Ministro das Relações Exteriores, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, participou, hoje, de cerimônia de reconhecimento da valorosa ação das Forças de Paz das Nações Unidas, a convite do Ministério da Defesa. Na ocasião, o Ministro das Relações Exteriores e os Comandantes das Forças Armadas prestaram homenagem aos soldados brasileiros que faleceram a serviço da Missão das Nações Unidas de Estabilização no Haiti.

Subseqüentemente, o Governo brasileiro tomou conhecimento, com consternação, do ataque realizado nesta sexta-feira ao comboio de patrulha da Força Interina das Nações Unidas no Líbano (UNIFIL) na cidade de Sidon, no sul do país.

O Governo brasileiro se associa às palavras do Secretário-Geral das Nações Unidas, Ban Ki-Moon, em sua condenação ao ataque e manifesta condolências aos familiares das vítimas, ao Governo italiano e aos integrantes das Forças de Paz.

On the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, at the invitation of the Ministry of Defense, Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota took part in a ceremony to acknowledge the courageous work of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces.  In the ceremony, the Minister of External Relations and the Commander of the Armed Forces paid their tribute to the Brazilian soldiers that lost their lives while serving in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.

Subsequently, the Brazilian Government was saddened to learn of the attack carried out this Friday against the patrol convoy of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, in Sidon, in the southern region of the country.

The Brazilian Government joins the United Nations Secretary-General in his condemnation of the attack and conveys its condolences to the families of the victims, to the Italian Government and to the members of the Peace Forces.
