O Ministro Celso Amorim, o Chanceler da Argentina, Héctor Timerman, o Chanceler do Paraguai, Hector Lacognata, e o Chanceler do Uruguai, Luis Almagro, reuniram-se hoje, 18 de outubro, em sessão extraordinária do Conselho do Mercado Comum, à margem da XXVI Sessão Plenária do Parlamento do Mercosul. Nessa ocasião, aprovaram o Acordo Político para a Consolidação do Parlamento do Mercosul.

A decisão histórica, passo fundamental para o fortalecimento da dimensão cidadã do Mercosul, define o critério de representação no Parlamento, assegurando a proporcionalidade das bancadas dos Estados Partes e abrindo caminho para a realização de eleições diretas.

Minister Celso Amorim, the Foreign Minister of Argentina, Héctor Timerman, the Foreign Minister of Paraguay, Hector Lacognata, and the Foreign Minister of Uruguay, Luis Almagro, met today, 18 October 2010, in an extraordinary session of the Common Market Council, parallel to the 26th Plenary Session of the Parliament of Mercosur, to approve the Political Agreement to Consolidate the Parliament. 

This historical decision, a fundamental step toward the strengthening of the citizen domain within Mercosur, defines the representation criterion in the Parliament, ensuring proportionate blocs for the State Parties and paving the way for direct elections.
