O Embaixador do Brasil em Teerã, Antonio Salgado, reuniu-se, em 4 de agosto, com o Vice-Ministro Interino para as Américas do Ministério das Relações Exteriores do Irã, para transmitir oficialmente o apelo referente à cidadã iraniana Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani e a oferta de recebê-la no Brasil, feitos pelo Presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

         O Itamaraty considera que a gestão realizada pelo Embaixador do Brasil em Teerã constitui, do ponto de vista diplomático, formalização da oferta. O Itamaraty confia em que o apelo feito com base em considerações puramente humanitárias e no bom relacionamento entre os dois Governos, que não visa a interferir na soberania iraniana, receberá a devida atenção das autoridades daquele país.

Brazil’s Ambassador to Teheran, Antonio Salgado, met with the Acting Deputy Minister for the Americas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, to convey officially the appeal on behalf of the Iranian citizen Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani and the offer to receive her in Brazil, made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Itamaraty deems that the contact made by the Brazilian Ambassador to Teheran does constitute, from a diplomatic standpoint, a formal offer.  Itamaraty trusts that the appeal, based on purely humanitarian grounds and on the good relations between the two Governments, and which does not aim at interfering with Iranian sovereignty, will be given proper consideration by officials in that country.
