2nd BRIC Summit - Brasília, April 16, 2010
The 2nd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the BRIC - Brazil, Russia, India and China - will be held at Palácio Itamaraty on April 16, 2010. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will host the event and receive the President of Russia, Dmitri Medvedev, the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, and the President of China, Hu Jintao.
The four leaders will discuss, among other issues, the international economic situation, the reform of financial institutions, the financial G20, cooperation and issues related to global governance. On the occasion, a joint publication with statistics on the four countries will be launched.
The following Summit-related side events will be held from April 13 to 16: IBSA + BRIC Business Forum; Development Banks Meeting, Commercial Banks Meeting; Think-Tanks Seminar; Cooperatives Forum; and Meeting of High Level Representatives on Strategy and Security.
Between 2003 and 2007, the growth of the BRIC countries stood for 65% of the expansion of the world's GDP. In 2009, the GDP of the BRIC countries, considering purchasing power parity, reached US$16.3 trillion, which represents 23.4% of the world's economy. From 2003 to 2008, trade flow between Brazil and the BRIC countries increased 382%. Trade exchanges went from US$10.7 billion, in 2003, to US$51.7 billion, in 2008.
