Socialist Republic of Viet Nam

vietna
Diplomatic relations between Brazil and Viet Nam were established in 1989. The Embassy of Brazil in Hanoi was opened in 1994 and Viet Nam established its Embassy in Brasília in 2000. The expressive results of bilateral trade – which jumped from US$ 47.1 million in 2003 to US$ 3,912 billion in 2015 – shows the expansion potential of the exchange between the two countries. In 2007, Viet Nam was Brazil’s second-largest trading partner among the countries that make up the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The Vietnamese interest in learning about Brazilian public policies can be seen in the number of visits to Brazil of the highest authorities of the Asian country, as well as parliamentary, academic, and technical delegations in different areas such as social security, environmental protection, energy efficiency, labor relations, preparation of WTO's negotiating boards, among others.

Brazil and Viet Nam have two regular dialogue mechanisms: Consultation Meetings on Subjects of Common Interest (Political Consultations); and Joint Committee. It is also worth noting the Viet Nam-Brazil Parliamentary Friendship Group, created in 2005. Bilateral mechanisms which are in force include areas in health and medical sciences; technical cooperation for production and use of ethanol fuel; scientific and technological cooperation; cultural cooperation; fight against hunger and poverty; and sports cooperation.

Brazil and Viet Nam have cooperated in multilateral fora, as in the case of the official support of Viet Nam for Brazil's claim to a permanent seat in a reformed United Nations Security Council.
