Republic of Tajikistan
Diplomatic relations between Brazil and Tajikistan were established through a protocol signed in Moscow, on March 29, 1996. The first high level meeting happened between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and President Emomali Rahmon, at the margins of the 65th United Nations General Assembly (2010). In 2012, President Rahmon visited Brazil in the context of the Rio+20 Conference.
In 2009, Brazil sympathized with the victims of floods and landslides in the country, making a humanitarian donation of US$ 50,000 through the United Nations World Food Programme.
There is potential for bilateral cooperation in areas such as agriculture (advanced cultivation techniques); alternative energy sources (especially ethanol) and the construction of hydroelectric power plants.
