Federal Republic of Somalia
The Embassy of Brazil in Cairo (Egypt), cumulatively, represents Brazil in Somalia.
The outbreak of the civil war in Somalia in 1991 hindered the development of bilateral relations. Brazil has contributed to the Somali transition, especially in the area of humanitarian aid. In the period 2010-2012 over 65 thousand tons of food were donated by the Brazilian Government to Somalia, in addition to contributions corresponding to more than US$ 1 million to international organizations in support of the country. During the transition period, the Brazilian Government supported a political solution to the conflict and Somalia's leading role in the process.
