Brazil established diplomatic relations with Kenya soon after its independence, in 1963, having installed resident Embassy in Nairobi in 1967. Kenya opened its Embassy in Brasília in 2006.

In 2010, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited Nairobi. On the occasion, agreements in the areas of trade and investment, education and energy were signed. That same year, the visit to Brazil of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Moses Wetang’ula, enabled partnerships in the areas of air services and cultural cooperation.

2005 –­ Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Celso Amorim, to Kenya

2005 – 1st Joint Commission Brazil-Kenya is held in Brasília

2005 – Signature of Agreement in the field of Sports Cooperation

2006 – Opening of the Embassy of Kenya in Brasília

2006 – Visit of the Minister of Tourism and Wildlife of Kenya to Brazil

2007 – Visit of the Brazilian Minister of Environment, Marina Silva, to Kenya

2008 – 2nd Joint Commission Brazil-Kenya is held in Nairobi. On the occasion, acts in the fields of health, environment and visas are signed.

2008 – Kenyan Minister of the social area participates in event of the Ministry of Social Development in Brazil (August)

2009 – Mission of Brazilian football coaches to train Kenyan professionals (September)

2010 – Visit by members of the Kenyan parliament of the Parliamentary Select Committee on the Activities of Unlawful Organizations, and visit of representatives of the Privatization Commission of the Kenyan Ministry of Finances (March)

2010 – Visits of the "Kenya Sugar Board" and of representatives of the Commission of Services of the Kenyan Parliament (May)

2010 – Visit of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Nairobi. First visit of a Brazilian Head of State to Kenya (July)

2010 – Kenyan Foreign Minister, Moses Wetang’ula, visits Brazil. During the visit, agreements on Air Services and Cultural Cooperation are signed (September)

2011 – Technical mission of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency is sent to Nairobi to analyze possibilities for cooperation between the two countries in the areas of agriculture; development of arid and semi-arid regions; protection of headwaters, disasters management, maritime rescue and forest fire fighting (October)

2012 – Through the World Food Program (WFP), Brazil donates 10 thousand tons of food to refugees sheltered in camps in Kenya (May)

2012 – The President of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki, comes to Brazil as head of the Kenyan delegation to the Rio+20 Earth Summit (June)

2013 – President Dilma Rousseff meets President Uhuru Kenyatta in the margins of the celebrations of the African Union Golden Jubilee (May)

2015  Participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the 10th WTO Ministerial Conference – Nairobi, December 15-18
