Republic of Namibia

In 1990, with the independence of Namibia, diplomatic relations were established and the Embassy of Brazil in Windhoek was opened. Along the 1990s and 2000s, several agreements were signed, such as the Naval Cooperation Agreement (1994), the Basic Agreement for Technical Cooperation (1995) and a new Technical Cooperation Agreement (2001) - and several high-level visits were held. Namibia opened its Embassy in Brasília in 2003.

Naval cooperation is one of the cornerstones of Brazil – Namibia relations, involving staff training, shipbuilding and technical support to the Namibian continental shelf surveying process. In the last years, the Brazilian Navy granted internships and training courses to approximately 600 Namibians officers and soldiers in several of its educational establishments and vessels. Many of those Namibian military personnel currently hold high rank positions in their national naval forces.
