Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan


Jordan is an important interlocutor in matters related to the Middle East, such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Brazil has helped Jordan in the assistance to Syrian refugees, contributing with USD 270,000 between 2012 and 2013 to activities of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan.

Among the cooperation initiatives between Brazil and Jordan, partnerships in the areas of education, agriculture, trade, air transport and culture stand out. In 2012, bilateral trade flow reached USD 217.6 billion, with a high surplus for Brazil.

The Embassy of Brazil in Amman and the Embassy of Jordan in Brasília were inaugurated in 1984.

Chronology of Bilateral Relations

1959 – Establishment of the Brazilian legation in Amman

1964 – Elevation of the Brazilian legation in Beirut to Embassy status. The Embassy is concurrently accredited to Jordan

1984 – Inauguration of the Embassy of Brazil in Amman

1984 – Inauguration of the Embassy of Jordan in Brasília

1994 – Foreign Minister Celso Amorim visits Jordan to attend the signature of the Peace Treaty with Israel

2003 – Foreign Minister Celso Amorim visits Amman

2004 – Bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and Jordanian Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher, on the sidelines of World Economic Forum at the Dead Sea

2005 – Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein visits Brazil, representing King Abdullah II in the 1st Summit of South American-Arab Countries (ASPA)

2005 – Foreign Minister Celso Amorim visits Amman

2006 – Prince Hassan Bin Talal visits Brazil

2008 – Foreign Minister Celso Amorim visits Amman

2008 – Foreign Minister Salaheddin al Bashir visits Brasília

2008 – King Abdullah II and Queen Rania visit Brazil (São Paulo and Brasília)
