The Brazilian Government has been following with concern the evolution of the crisis in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The deaths recorded since Gulf Cooperation Council troops were sent to Manama, on 14 March, are being regarded as a serious development.
The Brazilian Government calls on Bahraini authorities to engage in dialogue with the protesters and the opposition with a view to breaking the current political deadlock in the country. Resorting to the use of force may increase tensions on both sides, causing an escalation of the crisis.
Brazil reaffirms the need to uphold civil and political rights, as well as the peaceful right of expression of the Bahraini citizens.
