On 24 January 2010, at the headquarters of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), the Brazilian Government officially launched Robério Oliveira Silva’s candidacy for the position of ICO Executive Director for the 2011-2016 term.
Brazil is the major financial contributor to the ICO as well as the main coffee producer and exporter in the world, besides being the second largest consumer of the product.
The Brazilian candidate has all necessary academic and professional qualifications to perform the ICO Executive Director’s duties. He already held, for eight years, the position of Secretary-General of the Association of Coffee-Producing Countries, in London. Robério Silva, an economist, is currently the Director of the Coffee Department of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply.
