The MERCOSUR Business Forum will be held in Brasília, on 7 December 2012, parallel to the 44th Summit Meeting of the regional bloc. The meeting will be attended by businesspeople and government representatives. It will provide a venue to address actions with a view to enhancing trade and investment among MERCOSUR countries.
The event is promoted by the Brazilian Pro Tempore Presidency of MERCOSUR, with the support of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and the National Confederation of Industry (CNI).
The meeting debates will focus on four overarching themes: infrastructure and logistics, agribusiness, energy resources and innovation. Due to the strategic importance of small and medium-sized businesses for regional integration, those issues will be addressed throughout all four themes. The Forum will also feature areas for those seeking investment opportunities, for working meetings and for business rounds.
MERCOSUR countries gather a population of 275 million people and reached a combined GPD of US$ 3.32 trillion. In 2011, Brazilian exports to the other four other countries reached US$ 32.4 billion. Trade exchange between MERCOSUR and the rest of the world rose from US$ 508.64 billion, in 2007, to US$ 782.41 billion last year.
