The Brazilian Government will provide humanitarian aid to the victims of Hurricane Sandy in Haiti and Cuba. Haiti will receive US$ 100,000 in funds via the Brazilian Embassy in Port-au-Prince, to make local purchases and to distribute first necessity goods to those affected. The funds for Cuba, also US$ 100,000, will be sent via the International Red Cross for emergency humanitarian cooperation activities.
Furthermore, another donation had already been planned for late November from the Brazilian Government to Cuba, through the United Nations World Food Program (WFT), of 25,000 tons of rice, to strengthen food security and nutrition programs in that country. The donation will also provide relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy on the island.
