Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota will travel to Ottawa on 25 October to attend the 1st Meeting to the Brazil-Canada Strategic Partnership Dialogue.
The Strategic Partnership Dialogue (SPD) was created when Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited Brazil, in August 2011. The SPD meeting, to be coordinated by the Foreign Ministers of Brazil and Canada, will provide an opportunity to review the bilateral cooperation agenda, particularly on science, technology and innovation, energy, education, defense and humanitarian cooperation, in addition to global and regional affairs.
From 2007 to 2011, bilateral trade exchange between Brazil and Canada rose 13.2% a year, on average. In 2011, trade flows reached US$ 6.7 billion, a 32.7% growth over 2010. Direct investment exchange between Brazil and Canada grew significantly from 2010 to 2011. Whereas Canadian investment into Brazil reached US$ 1.78 billion in 2011 (a 138% growth), Brazilian direct investment into Canada reached US$ 1.33 billion, from only US$ 12 million in 2010.
