The Brazilian Government has learned, with profound sadness, of the attacks against United States’ diplomatic and consular missions in Cairo and in Benghazi, among which the attack that led to the death of the USA Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and of three other diplomatic personnel.

Brazil repudiates the attacks in the strongest terms and recalls the commitment required of all countries to uphold the inviolability principle of the premises of diplomatic and consular missions, as provided for in the 1961 and 1963 Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations, respectively.

The Brazilian Government expresses its solidarity to the families of the deceased diplomats and to the people and Government of the United States of America, and conveys its condolences on the death of personnel in the service of their country.
