The Brazilian Government deplores the attack carried out against members of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) – UNOCI, which left a toll of 7 dead among the military troops of Niger. The Brazilian Government conveys its solidarity with and its condolences to the families of the victims and to the Nigerien Government.
Under the legal protection of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1528 (2004), 1609 (2005) and 1739 (2007), UNOCI was established with a view to upholding peace and security in the region. Acts of violence against UNOCI members constitute an unacceptable breach of international law.
The Brazilian Government reiterates its repudiation of all kinds of violence carried out under any pretext whatsoever.
