In the context of the 28th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, under way in Geneva, Brazil co-sponsored, along with more than 60 countries, the interregional declaration delivered today, March 13, entitled "Supporting the human rights of Christians and Other Communities in the Middle East". Brazil's support reflects the concern with the severe violations of human rights of Christians and other minorities, religious groups and several individuals who have been victims of intolerance, discrimination and violence in the region.

After the reading of the joint declaration, the Brazilian delegation made an intervention underlining its concern with the violations also being committed against other religious and ethnic minorities and national groups in the Middle East, including Muslim communities victims of sectarian violence in the region.
