The Minister of External Relations, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, and the Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship, Antonio Tajani, met today in Brasilia, with the purpose, among others, of following-up on activities of the EU-Brazil ad hoc Working group on economic themes, with an emphasis on investment and competitiveness. During his visit to Brasília, Vice-President Tajani also met with the Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Fernando Pimentel, as well as with officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Created by President Dilma Rousseff and the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, the WG aims to deepen trade and economic relations between the EU and Brazil and to explore opportunities for industrial cooperation.
Notable among the key strategic themes addressed by that Working Group are the strengthening of contacts between European and Brazilian business communities; industrial cooperation as a driver for growth, especially in the innovative and high technology areas, as well as industrial research and development; support to micro and small enterprises.
The Working Group's conclusions will be presented and adopted at the next meeting of the EU-Brazil Summit, scheduled for February 2014 in Brussels, Belgium.
