The Minister of External Relations, Ambassador Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, will be in New York next November 25.
At the UN headquarters, Minister Figueiredo will hold a meeting with the President of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Ambassador John W. Ashe (Antigua and Barbuda). On this occasion, the Minister will convey Brazil's strong support for President Ashe's efforts to boost the reform of the UN Security Council (UNSC). He will also discuss the implementation of the Rio+20's decisions and the definition of the post-2015 development agenda.
The Foreign Minister will hold a working meeting with the Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous. On the occasion, they will examine the situation of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
Brazil is the largest contributor of troops to the Mission (today, 1,402 military personnel and 6 police officers) and, since its establishment in 2004, a Brazilian General officer commands its military component.
