The Minister of External Relations, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, will host the Foreign Minister of Côte d'Ivoire, Charles Koffi Diby, in Brasília on February 4, 2014. During the visit, they will discuss issues on the bilateral and international agenda, in particular political stability in West Africa (Mali and Guinea Bissau).
Brazil and Côte d'Ivoire have cooperation programs in the area of census and statistics, by means of an agreement with the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics); renewable energy, in the biofuels industry; and education, by granting scholarships to Ivorian students.
Côte d'Ivoire is the host country of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and an important partner of Brazil in West Africa. Trade between Brazil and Côte d'Ivoire increased by 80% between 2004 and 2013, from US$ 55 million to US$ 99 million in that period.
