The Minister of External Relations, Ambassador Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, will make a working visit to France on March 19, 2014. He will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Laurent Fabius, and will have a working lunch with the Diplomatic Advisor to President François Hollande, Paul Jean-Ortiz.
The visit will provide an opportunity to follow up on bilateral cooperation projects agreed during the visit of President François Hollande (December 12-13, 2013), especially in the areas of defense, science, technology and innovation, and education. Themes related to bilateral trade flows and investments, as well as global issues, will also be discussed.
In 2013 trade exchange reached US$ 9.89 billion, of which US$ 3.39 billion in exports and US$ 6.50 billion in imports. France was the eighth largest investor in Brazil, with a flow of approximately US$ 1.4 billion. Among France's noteworthy investments in Brazil are the participation of the oil company Total in the Libra field exploration and of GDF Suez in gas exploration, as well as the construction of the Angra 3 reactor plant by Areva.
