On this International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, the Brazilian government reiterates its repudiaton of terrorism in all its forms, regardless of its motivation. Brazil also stands in solidarity with all persons, families and nations victims of terrorism and reaffirms its commitment to working towards combating and eradicating this scourge.
As a threat to peace, to human rights and fundamental freedoms and to development, terrorism must be defeated energetically, and can never be justified nor tolerated.
It is imperative to recognize and face terrorism wherever it is and in all its forms and manifestations, including in South America, where, in combination with organized crime and corruption, it represents a serious threat to security and democracy.
The Brazilian government has reaffirmed its firm commitment against terrorism on a number of occasions, including in January 2020, at the Third Hemispheric Ministerial Conference to Combat Terrorism, whose joint communique condemns terrorism, whatever its motivations might be.
