Minister of Foreign Affairs Ernesto Araújo will host the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay, Antonio Rivas Palacios, in Brasilia on September 9th. This is the Paraguayan Foreign Minister's first bilateral visit after his appointment last July.
At the meeting they will examine the main topics on the bilateral agenda, with emphasis on physical integration projects and security cooperation. Issues of mutual interest on the regional and multilateral agendas will also be discussed.
Brazil is Paraguay's main trading partner. Brazil absorbs about one third of Paraguayan exports. In 2018, bilateral trade totalled $4.07 billion, an increase of 7.6% over the previous year, with a Brazilian surplus of $1.75 billion. Brazil also has the second largest direct investment stock in Paraguay, estimated at $970 million.
In 2019 Brazil and Paraguay celebrate 175 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
