The president of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, will receive the president of the Republic of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, on March 12, in Brasília. On the occasion, the two presidents will examine the main themes of the bilateral agenda, in particular the fight against transnational crimes, the bilateral automotive agreement and projects to build international bridges linking the two countries. Regional issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Venezuela, will also be addressed.
Brazil is Paraguay's main trading partner. In 2018, bilateral trade amounted to 4.1 billion dollars, a 8.6 per cent increase compared to 2017. Brazil also has the second largest stock of direct investments in that country, estimated at around 1 billion dollars.
Paraguay is home to the second largest Brazilian community abroad, totaling approximately 330 thousand people. A significant part of this community is dedicated to agricultural activities in the country’s departments bordering Brazil.
