Representatives of Mercosur and Canada are gathered in Brasília since December 2 for the fourth round of negotiations of the free trade agreement between the two parties. In this round, to be held until December 12, the participating 230 negotiators will address the progress made so far, discuss market access offers exchanged last October and formulate strategies for the conclusion of the agreement’s chapters and for the deepening of trade opening commitments.
Negotiations were launched in March, in Asuncion, and began shortly after in Ottawa. Since then, new rounds have been held alternately in Brasília and in the Canadian capital. On the Mercosur side, Brazil coordinates the process through the organization of activities of the 23 working groups that are responsible for shaping the agreement.
The next negotiation round is scheduled for March 2019, in Ottawa.
