During his term as president of the United States and in his eight years as vice president, George H. W. Bush contributed to the strengthening of the ties of friendship and cooperation between the United States and Brazil, based on mutual interests and shared values.
Leading the U.S. Government in the years following the end of the Cold War, George H.W. Bush played a prominent role in the quest for stability in standards for international interactions, of which the signing the first Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START I), with then Russian leader Mikhail Gorbatchov, is an example.
