From November 5 to 12, 2018, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will conduct an on-site visit to Brazil, an invitation extended by the Brazilian Government in 2017. Within the context of Brazil’s commitment to the promotion of human rights in the country, the visit has been scheduled since January 2018. In the past years, several IACHR officers have been to Brazil to attend events and meetings.

In Brazil, the IACHR delegation will visit eight states and the Federal District. The Commission’s schedule includes meetings with representatives from civil society and official bodies, in addition to field trips.
With its headquarters in Washington, United States, the IACHR’s main function is to promote the observance and protection of human rights in the Americas. It also makes recommendations to OAS Member States and requests information regarding human rights. It is composed of seven members, elected in a personal capacity by the OAS General Assembly.
