In response to the international appeal issued by the Indonesian Government and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the Brazilian Government will donate 100,000 dollars in humanitarian cooperation to the victims of the earthquake and the tsunami that struck the Indonesian province of Central Sulawesi, on September 28. The tragedy has left more than 2,000 people dead, 10,000 severely injured and 80,000 homeless.

The donation will be made through the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), which has been helping the Indonesian Government to coordinate the logistics for the assistance to the victims.

The official announcement of the Brazilian contribution was made today, October 19, in Brasília, during a meeting between foreign minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira and the ambassadors of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.
