The President of the Republic, Michel Temer, will attend the inauguration ceremony of President-elect of Paraguay Mario Abdo Benítez, to take place in Asunción on August 15.
On the day before the inauguration ceremony, Foreign Ministers Aloysio Nunes and Eladio Loizaga will sign an agreement for construction of an international bridge over the Apa River between the municipality of Porto Murtinho in Brazil and the district of San Lázaro in Paraguay, which will provide a road link between the center-west of Brazil and the fluvial port of Concepción, in the center of Paraguay.
Brazil is Paraguay's main trading partner. In 2017, the trade exchange totaled US$ 3.78 billion. In the first seven months of 2018, the flow of trade totaled US$ 2.2 billion, which represents an increase of 5.7% over the same period in 2017. In addition, Brazil has the second largest direct investment in Paraguay, estimated at US$ 697 million.
Brazil was the first country that the President-elect of Paraguay visited, in recognition of the depth and importance of the bilateral coordination ties that unite the two nations. Brazil and Paraguay share strong democratic values and are fully engaged in deepening regional integration.
The Brazilian government reiterates its willingness to work with the new Paraguayan government toward strengthening the historic partnership between the countries, both bilaterally and within MERCOSUR.
