The State of Kuwait and the Federative Republic of Brazil celebrate, in 2018, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, characterized by mutual cooperation, respect and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
The two countries exchanged diplomatic missions in both capitals since the early years of diplomatic relations, which were established in January 1968.
Over the past decades, the two countries have committed themselves to building a strong partnership and solid understanding that is being strengthened today through the first meeting of political consultations. Both of our countries share a number of principles guiding their foreign policy, such as non-interference in internal affairs, diplomatic conflict resolution and cooperation as a tool for development. All these principles have contributed to the strengthening of political dialogue between the two countries on several multilateral issues, especially since 1990. This approach was reflected in Brazil's position in support of Kuwait's election to the non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2018-2019.
Bilateral relations have an important economic aspect not only because of the flow of traditional trade, but also because of the great potential of mutual investments. The trade exchange has a fertile ground for increase.
On the occasion of Kuwait and Brazil celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations based on common principles and interests, the two sides reaffirm their commitment to cooperate in the interest of the peoples of both countries.
