The Brazilian Government strongly condemns today’s attack against the operating base of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) in the province of North Kivu. The attack killed at least 14 Tanzanian “blue helmets” and five members of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s armed forces, and left dozens more injured.
Brazil extends is condolences and sympathies to the Governments of Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the families of the victims. Brazil also reaffirms its support to the work of MONUSCO and the efforts of the international community towards the stabilization of the DRC. Brazil also emphasizes the unequivocal obligation of all parties to the conflict to respect and ensure the physical integrity of the personnel at the service of the United Nations.
