The UN Secretariat authorized the exceptional extension of the humanitarian operations of the Brazilian troops at MINUSTAH due to the passage of Hurricane Irma in the north of the country, expected for September 7 and 8.

MINUSTAH troops officially ended their military patrols last August 30 and are currently in the process of preparing for the complete disengagement of the mission until October 15, according to the Security Council Resolution 2350 (2017). In view of the gravity and exceptionality of the situation, as well as the history of cooperation in the face of natural disasters in Haiti, part of the Brazilian contingent was preventively moved to the region that is on the path of the hurricane, in order to minimize its impact by providing guidance to the population and immediate humanitarian assistance.

The Brazilian government closely monitors the news of the passage of Hurricane Irma and reaffirms its solidarity with the people and Government of Haiti.
